Known bugs

The bugs published on this page are mainly computational bugs that affect the calculation results. For each bug there is a plan for when the bug will be fixed.

As a service to our customers we sometimes make a patch for a bug. We do not publish these patches on this page. To get access to a patch, please contact our support. The patches might not always be well tested and should only be installed by customers experiencing the specific problem that the patch fixes.

Bug fix version
With certain intervals we collect fixed bugs into a Bug fix version that is installed in the same way as a new version. A Bug fix version has a four digit version number, e.g. 5.0.0.1, and includes fixes for both computational bugs and other bugs.

Detailed window model: For a switchable glazing with more than two states, only the states with lowest and highest transmittance, corresponding to control signal 1 and 0, work as intended. A control signal in between one and zero for the switchable glazing is treated as zero, which then gives the brightest state instead of an intermediate state.

In models using Advanced Heating/Cooling Distribution Systems with multiple water circuits, Active Beam and Swegon Beam room units incorrectly remain connected to the default heating and cooling circuits, regardless of the circuit assignment specified by the user.

Workaround: Adjust the order of the water circuits so that the circuits intended for Active Beam and Swegon Beam units are configured as the default heating and cooling circuits. Other room-unit types should then be assigned to the remaining circuits as needed.

Windows File Explorer: A recent update to Windows is causing IDA ICE to crash when File Explorer is opened, for example when using “Save As…”, “Open…”, or “Import CAD”.

Workaround:

  1. Delete DLL files "msvcp140.dll" and "vcruntime140.dll" from the folder "bin" in the IDA ICE installation folder. For example "C:\Program Files (x86)\IDA\bin"
  2. Test if IDA ICE is functioning as intended.
  3. If IDA ICE continues to crash:
Go to Latest supported Visual C++ Redistributable downloads | Microsoft Learn and install the X64 Redistributable package.

Generic free standing PV: When using Generic free standing PV, shading from large imported CAD objects may not be applied correctly. In affected cases, the PV production is calculated without considering shading from the imported object, although shading animation looks correct. The issue may occur after reopening the model, even if the shading was initially working.

Sending project files to Support: In Outlook 2024, issues have occurred when sending project files to EQUA support - emails are not always delivered successfully.

Workaround: Instead of using the built-in email function, users should follow these instructions.

IDA ICE startup crash with SentinelOne on Windows 11: There is a known issue where Sentinel Agent, part of the SentinelOne anti-virus software, may cause ida-ice.exe to crash during the startup of IDA ICE. This occurs because Sentinel Agent injects itself as a DLL, which then attempts to access a null pointer. So far, this issue appears to be limited to Windows 11 (specific versions affected are currently unknown).

Workaround: Add an exclusion for ida-ice.exe in SentinelOne to prevent the crash.

Note: This does not appear to be Sentinel Agent flagging IDA ICE as malicious. Instead, it is caused by a problem in Sentinel Agent’s DLL injection behavior, which is outside of our control.

All versions of IDA ICE are probably affected

Aggregeringen i tillägget följer just nu manual 3.0 oavsett vald version i rull-listan. Detta innebär att betyget för indikatorerna Solvärmelast, Termisk komfort sommar och vinter samt Dagsljus (för IDA ICE version 4.8) kan höjas två steg från lägsta rumsbetyget vilket inte är korrekt.

Detailed window: When a window includes integrated exterior shading, the Maximum solar gain (variable Qsolar) is slightly overestimated. This value is also used as “Indikator 2” (Solvärmelast) in the Miljöbyggnad extension. For a model with the window/floor area ratio = 0.15 and the window frame fraction = 0.1, the error is in the order of 1 W/m2.

Photovoltaics:

  • PV AC panel (PVmicroInverter): The series resistance is calculated incorrectly when the operating conditions deviate from the standard test conditions. This results in an error in the voltage calculated by the one-diode model, and an error in the produced power of up to 5% in a full year simulation.

  • PV panel with Tigo optimizer, I-V for each module is optimized (PVstrModOpt): Errors in the calculation of parameters and variables in the one-diode model leads to incorrect yearly production from the PV. This can lead to overestimation of the power in partially shaded conditions; without significant shading the yearly production may be overestimated by up to 15%, with significant shading the error may exceed 30%.

Hot object: When a model, which has a hot object with imported geometry, is built and simulated, the results are initially ok. However, the z-coordinate of the hot object is wrongly set to be equal to the size of the object in the y-direction. If the 3D view is refreshed, the hot object is translated accordingly along the z-direction. If the model is built and simulated again, the results are wrong as the hot object has been relocated.

Roof window: If a zone has an inclined (> 10°) roof window (e.g. in an atrium) the distribution of the transmitted direct radiation to the different zone surfaces may in some cases become incorrect. This is most likely to happen if the zone height is low compared to the width or length and the inclination of the roof is low.

Leaks/openings between zones: If a leak is inserted in the ceiling of the bottom zone and another in the floor of the top zone, the air exchange between the two zones may become overrated. Smaller differences in air exchange between two zones may also occur depending on in which zone the leaks or an opening is inserted.

Floor heating/cooling: If a floor with floor heating/cooling is connected to the ground, the floor heating/cooling layer is immersed in the construction "External constructions" instead of "Constructions toward ground". If these constructions are different the heat transmission through the floor can be over- or underestimated.

For internal mass (furniture, convective internal mass, extra wall mass), the calculated heat capacity is less than set in the construction. The effect of this is negligible in most cases but can for settings of large mass heat capacities damp the room air temperature swing too little and lead to a slight overestimation of heating and cooling.

Detailed window: For a window with a window integrated shading of the type venetian blind or shutter, the solar transmittance may be overestimated and the solar reflectance underestimated, which may lead to a too high cooling and/or a too low heating demand. The error may be of a similar magnitude as a -5 degree error in slat angle might lead to.
