To find an object
To find an object
The textual search (see Edit menu) may be used to find any text in the active window.
In the outline view, the textual search browses even the collapsed items. It may be used to find a data object containing the given text in the name, value, or any other field shown in the outline view.
In the form-based views, the textual search may be used for searching the objects in list fields.
In the schematic view, the textual search may find objects by name, even if the names are not shown in this view (objects are shown as object symbols)
To find an object in the IDA system
- Open the outline view of the system.
- Select the menu item Edit | Find & Replace,
or click Ctrl+F. - In the Find & Replace dialog, type in the text to search for. This text should appear in the label that denotes the searched object (or some of its component) in the outline view. It may be, e.g., the name, the value of some parameter, a connection etc.
- Press the Find button.
- If it is not the desired object that is found, select the menu item Edit | Find Next (or click Ctrl+G or F3), until the desired object is found.
To find a model on the schematic view
- Open the schematic view of the system.
- Select the menu item Edit | Find & Replace,
or click Ctrl+F. - In the Find & Replace dialog, type in the model's name (or a part of the name).
- Press the Find button.
- If it is not the desired model that is found, select the menu item Edit | Find Next (or click Ctrl+G or F3), until the desired model is found.
To find all objects with given properties
The Search Objects tool generates and displays a list of all components with requested properties.
To search for objects
- Select a view of the system or a data object
- Select the menu item Edit | Find Objects
- In the Find Objects dialog, specify the searching scope, requested properties, and search options (see below for details)
- Press the Search button. The list of objects is displayed in a separate view.

Search Objects dialog
Use the Navigate button
to change the scope of the searching.
To request the properties,
- Select the class of the required object
- Mark which attribute(s) describe(s) the property
- Select how the attribute values are matched against the given value
- Provide the given value
- Specify additional search options
Here are the details
The following object classes are supported:
- Variables
- Parameters
- Interfaces (another name: connectors)
- Records (all aggregates of parameters and variables except the listed below)
- Mathematical models
- Systems and macro objects
- Boundary objects (input files and tables, plugs)
- Output object (output files, tables and reports)
- Resources
The following attribute values may be scanned
- Object name
- Description
- Value (for parameters and variables)
- Start value (for variables)
- Array size (the actual value)
- Array size parameters (the names of the parameters that specify the array size)
- OK range (the allowed range of the parameter values)
- Binding (for variables) and connections (for interfaces)
- Entity or model name
- Measurement unit
- Role (as defined in applications)
- Logged to (the name of the output file where the variable is logged)
- Logged as (the column name in the output file)
The following matching rules are supported
- The attribute value contains the given text
- The attribute value contains some of given words (or phrases enclosed in double quotes)
- The attribute value contains all given words (or phrases enclosed in double quotes)
- The attribute starts with the given text
- The attribute ends with the given text
- The attribute is identical to the given text
- The attribute value is a number equal to the given one (with optional tolerance). If the value field is left empty, the objects with missing attribute values will be found
- The attribute value is a number in the given range
- The given script applied to the object returns non-nil value
Additional options
- Match case, i.e., distinguish between small and capital letters
- Whole word only (not implemented yet), i.e., do not accept matching of parts of words
- No translation, i.e., match the symbolic names as they are defined in Modelica/NMF source and application files. If this option is not checked (this is the default) and the application provides translation of the names to the user's language, the matches are searched in the translated names.
When testing the matching condition by a script, the settings of other dialog fields are available as variables _scope (the searched object), _attr (the attribute or a list of attributes), _case (case-sensitivity), _word (whole word only), _symbol (no translation).
