Inserting new components
There are three methods for insertion of a new component:
Method 1: double-click on palette
- In the left hand Side bar, select the Palette tab. The palette contains components of different types that the application provides for insertion in documents.
IDA applications may provide multiple palette tabs with different names. - Double-click a component in the palette.
- If the active view of your document provides a fixed place for inserted component (e.g., a list field), the component will be included at that place.
If not, point out the place for the component’s symbol by clicking in the form (see placing the objects) - Optionally, rename the component.
The palette may contain fields for selecting name and description for inserted object, as in method 3.
Method 2: drag from palette
- In the Side bar, select the Palette tab. The palette contains components of different types that the application provides for insertion in documents.
- In the palette, select one or more components.
- Drag the selected component(s) into your document (with the left mouse button pressed).
If the active view of your document provides a fixed place for inserted component (e.g., a list field), the component will be included at that place.
If not, the component's symbol will be inserted where it was dropped. - Optionally, rename the component(s).
Method 3: use the menu
- Select the Insert | New object menu to open the Insert Component dialog.
- Select the desired component type. Optionally, supply the component name and description. Press OK.
- If the active view of your document provides a fixed place for inserted component (e.g., a list field), the component will be included at that place.
If not, point out the place for the component’s symbol by clicking in the form (see placing the objects)
With this method, you can also insert (a) an existing macro object from file and (b) a symbol for the whole macro (it may be used for connections).
