What input is needed?

To setup a simulation model of a complete building system, a simulation expert needs to cosider the following simulation model parts:

  • The external boundary conditions for the building (climate and weather)
  • The geometry of the building
  • The surroundings of the buildings that affect the external boundary conditions locally (micro climate)
  • The materialization of the building's envelope
  • The internal boundary conditions, depending on the use of the occupied areas and rooms (zone usage data)
  • The advanced settings for these zones
  • The units that supply heat, cold and air to the occupied zones
  • The systems for generating, storing and distributing the heat, cold and air to the zones
  • The controls of the central and local systems and components
  • Information on the produced and/or purchased energy that is delivered to the simulated system
  • Simulation data like settings for the solver, information on the simulation period or the required results.

This section explains the structure and logic of these model parts in IDA ICE and links directly to the explanations of the corresponding input forms and dialogs (context-sensitive help texts) that can also directly be reached from the user interface by clicking the F1 button.
