Why do BPS?
Proof of concept and sensitivity analysis
A BPS model can serve as a virtual test bench for a building that has not yet been built. Sensitivity analyses can be used to stress test variant decisions that have been made. The BPS user examines, for example, how a component, a system, a room or the entire building reacts to certain boundary conditions - such as global warming, extreme weather events like hot or cold periods or deviating user behavior.
When defining worst-case scenarios, it is important not to choose unrealistic combinations of extreme boundary conditions. For example, a room will almost certainly never be overcrowded with an extreme weather event at the same time. The definition of realistic scenarios therefore also involves a risk assessment with a probability of occurrence.
In addition to analyzing specific scenarios that affect periods of a few hours, days or weeks, statistical results such as the frequency of discomfort can also be obtained using an annual simulation. This involves e.g. counting of dissatisfied hours, duration of rooms being in different comfort classes, “over-temperature degree hours”, Spatial Daylight Autonomy etc.
