Known issues in CFD

Known issues (CFD extension)
- CFD Report – The value for Boundary Layer Refinement is incorrectly reported when extrusion layers are enabled. Boundary Layer Refinement refers to the user-defined input for Number of Extrusion Layers.
- Automatic leaks may have an incorrect direction when imported into the CFD extension. It is recommended to model without automatic leaks.
- Visualization of input of airflow in the CFD tab may display an incorrect flow direction.
- This bug is fixed in IDA ICE CFD 5.1.1.1:
Animation tab: The '# of colors' setting does not function correctly in IDA ICE version 5.1.1. Leave the field empty to enable contiguous visualization instead (no color bands). - The variable 'Age of air' is incorrectly calculated for recirculation airflow units and for airflow through openings between zones.
- Saving an active document, with CFD simulations, over an existing .idm file is not safe and may cause loss of CFD data.
- The hot object is not recogized by the CFD extension yet! Needs to be replaced by a radiator or equipment.
- Supply or exhaust terminals positioned on a window, a wall part et c. will not be resolved as a CFD patch (it will be missing in the CFD model) if it is not defined as an "advanced" type terminal. See the CFD tab in the supply terminal form and this page.
- Extensive use of wall parts or other over-complications of geometry may cause geometry errors that are fatal to the CFD model.
- Switching from transient to steady state simulation may fail due to floating point precision for large time stamps.
- Opening a saved transient CFD case may fail due to floating point precision for large time stamps.
- Parallel simulations do not work if the IDA ICE installation or the temporary folder is located at a path with non-ascii characters. This is due to an issue with Microsoft MPI.
- Parallel simulations may be blocked by company security policies.
- Transient calculation progress dialog has poor scaling of the X-axis.
- Names of zones, surfaces, imported geometries etc. must not start with a digit, since OpenFOAM requires names to start with an ascii letter.
- CFD models with very tall zones occasionally has trouble initiating the static pressure when using the steady state solver. A workaround is to start the simulation with the transient solver and after about one physical second (or less) switch back to the steady state solver.
- When geometrical representations of supply terminals or active beams are used, the result table may fail to show the statistics for that objects boundaries.
- Some forms in the user interface are at an experimental stage
- Internal masses that are conncected with a geometry does not work. #2901
- Deleting files in the Windows sub-linux system (WSL) can not release the disk space back from WSL to Windows. C: drive may be fully occupied unless users delete and re-import the entire WSL system. Refer to this page for alternative solution.
